piano teaching
The following is a guide to help you in your ear tests.
Many RCM students find intervals hard to distinguish by ear, but it becomes very easy when you practice at it and use things you already know to help you. These lists are good reference points to keep by the piano for when you are practicing your intervals.
Always make sure that you qualify your interval as well as quantify it. An answer of "a third" is not good enough because the examiner does not know what kind of a third you are talking about. Also, it is important to specify whether the interval is "above" or "below". You may get points knocked off if you don't calrify things!
For any of you who are interested, RCM has also come out with tapes and CD's to help you with your ear training at any level. If you are interested in purchasing any of these items, please let us know.
